how to use few,a few,the few

Little is used to show uncountable things while few denotes that which is countable.
Little is used for singular uncountable while few is used for plural countable.
A few carries the meaning 'some' while a little conveys specifically how small the quantity is.
The few refers to a specific group that is minimal in number.
Example - There was little sugar in the jar. 
                 There was a little sugar in the jar (shows how the quantity was insignificant and small)
                 There were few family members here.
                 There were a few family members here.
              The few people who gathered were quiet unhappy.
