Remember the following points while writing a formal letter:

- Mentioning the subject is a must in a formal letter.

- The formal letter should be brief, simple and concise. 

- It should focus on the issue rather than dwindling on various other elements.

- Colloquial words or expressions must be avoided.

- The address must be complete and must have the pin code of the address to which it is being sent.The imperative tone must be avoided in case of formal letters.

- Coherence should be maintained.

- Marks will be awarded on the use of appropriate style, language, content and expression.

- Although, marks will not be deducted for exceeding the word limit, it is advisable to follow the given word limit.
