When the rat trap seller went to the crofter’s cottage by the roadside and asked for help, the crofter received him with a smile and served him porridge and tobacco roll. The crofter was in fact happy when the peddler went to his house as he got a break from his loneliness. The crofter opened out his heart before the peddler.
