How will the addition of barium chloride soln. help to distinguish between dilute HCl and dilute sulphuric acid

Dear Student,

When barium chloride is added to hydrochloric acid no new substance is formed.

BaCl+ HCl BaCl+ HCl

When barium chloride is added to sulphuric acid, barium sulphate new precipitate is formed.

BaCl2 + H2SO BaSO + 2HCl

See when we add Barium Chloride to HCL no precipitate and no new substance would be formed and when we would add Barium Chloride to the sulphuric acid than the white precipitate of Barium sulphate would be formed.
