How would the disposal of garbage,etc.,affect the living organisms in the river?

Disposal of garbages affect the organisms living in water because the garbages may be of any kind like plastic, industrial effluent and other waste products so in case of plastics we can take an example of polythene bags so, some organisms like fishes, jellyfishes, sponges etc gets trapped in it so they are neither able to breathe nor they can get out of it, as a result of which they finally starve to death. Industrial effluent contains chemicals which act as poison for them.
