I am not able to understand this answer. Doesn't autumn refer to a season in this chapter?

Dear student,

Yes, autumn refers to the season in this chapter. 10th May was an autumn day because it was a bright and clear day which was perfect for the largest gathering of international leaders on African soil. Like the day was bright, so was the event where Nelson Mandela was sworn in as the African President. This day marked the first democratic non-racial government.
