I can't understand this sentence from pg 167 in biology NCERT text. Please explain.

" Inbreeding exposes harmful recessive genes that are eliminated by selection."

Please find below the solution to the asked query

Inbreeding refers to the mating of closely- related individuals within the same breed for 4 - 5 generations.

The given statement can be explained as:
During inbreeding there are high chances of harmful recessive alleles coming together i.e becoming homozygous in the progeny and expressing themselves. These harmful recessive alleles may contain information for any disease and they cause disease only when present in homozygous condition. After identifying them during inbreeding, they are eliminated by the process of natural selection. The natural selection involves selecting only those individuals which are healthy and eliminating defective ones.

Hope this information will clear your doubts about the inbreeding.
