On the basics of their function, meristematic tissues are classified as apical, lateral and intercalary meristem.apical meristem are present at the shoot apex and root apex and they help in the growth of the plants length wise. Lateral meristem are present at the lateral side of the stem and they help in increasing the girth of the plants.Intercalary meristem are present at the between the internodes and they help in the increase in the internodal regions.
