I ______(reach) station before the train arrived. With reason.

Had Reached (past perfect tense)

I had reached the station before the train arrived.
Here the past perfect tense of the verb is used.
Reason: The?past perfect?refers to a time earlier than before now. It is?used to make it clear that one event happened before another in the past. It does not matter which event is mentioned first - the?tense makes it clear which one happened first.
Over here both the events, myself reaching the station and the arrival of train occured in the past. But "had reached" makes it clear that myself reaching the station had happened before the train arrived there.
Hope this helps!!

had reached, past perfect
acc to this statement : train arrived which tells the situation is set in past and by further understanding it suggests that it is not a continous action as the situation is finished and is not simple past tense as well therefore it is past perfect .
with I had reached is used.
