I sincerely request the experts to write a paragraph about 250 words on 'Sources of Water'
Headlines:
  • Main sources of natural water.(Surface & Underground water)
  1. Description on surface water including Rainwater, River water & lake water and sea water.
  2. Description on Underground water including Spring water and Well water.
Please do give the answer today, fast!!!

Dear student.

Rainwater, oceans, rivers, lakes, streams, ponds and springs are natural sources of water.

Water which falls from the clouds is called as rain water. Groundwater is the water which is present inside the earth's surface. When rain water falls on the ground and percolates inside the surface of earth it becomes ground water.

Ground water is the usable form of water present inside the ground or surface of earth, between soil spaces and this can be used for several purposes like drinking, washing etc.

Following are some benefits  of ground water:

  • A pathogenic bacterium that often causes diseases is missing in ground water. Thus, it is much safer for consumption.
  • Unlike surface water there is no pre treatment, like sedimentation or filtration required for ground water.
  • It is most economical to obtain.
Well water is the ground water which is free from germs because of the long travel time in the sub surface environment. Most of the microbes are filtered while forming ground water. If acid rain percolates through soil and mixes with the ground water then it depends on the chemistry of the rocks surrounding ground water. Carbonate rocks neutralises acid rain water while percolating through soil.
Well should be properly covered while not in use to avoid any kind of contamination like acid rain. If well is not properly covered, well water will become acidic and will not be suitable for drinking.
Both spring and well water which belong to the group of underground water contain dissolved salts.

Comparison of surface water and ground water.

1.Surface water is found over the land surface like pond, rivers, marshes, lakes, and reservoir etc. whereas ground water is found beneath the earth's surface. Water on the surface gradually seeps down saturating the underground rocks.
2.Surface water is affected by physical variables such as soil, topography, land cover and mineralogy while ground-water is mainly affected by geologic conditions.
3.Surface water gets easily contaminated than ground water.

Groundwater is better than the surface water. It is because the ground water is less prone to get contaminated whereas the surface water can easily get contaminated. Thus, the groundwater is cleaner than the surface water.

Regards.
