If a person is lying quite still,what does he need energy for?

A person lying still requires energy for various biochemical processes occurring inside the body. For example, synthesis of glycogen, fats, amino acids from food we eat is energy consuming process. Also various metabolic processes such as respiration, cell division which takes place at all time also require energy.
