a^2 - 1 = 4a
a^2 - 1

--> a^2 + 1/a^2 - 2 = 16 
--> a^2 + 1/a^2 = 16 + 2

--> a^2 + 1/a^2 + 2 = 18 + 2
--> (a + 1/a)^2 = 20
--> a + 1/a = + or - root 20
--> a + 1/a = + or - 2 root 5 (answer ii.)
 
 a - 1/a = 4 ..............(1)
a + 1/a = + or - 2 root 5............(2)
(1) x (2) =
(a - 1/a)(a + 1/a) = 4 x (+ or - 2 root 5)
