Yes, a person can survive with one kidney, if the other kidney goes damaged. As long as one kidney is healthy, it does not affect a lifespan. But if  both of the kidneys stop to function, then toxic nitrogenous wastes and fluids will build up in the body that may result in toxicity and cause death if not treated well on time.
