In a class test containing 20 questions, 3 marks are given for every correct answer and -1 mark is given for every incorrect answer.
a) Renu attempts all 20 questions but only 11 of her answers are correct. What is her total score?
b) Her friend attempts 8 questions and 7 answers are correct. What is her friend's total score?

it is       (correct answer x 3 marks )  + (  incorrect answer x -1 mark ) 

a.)  (11 x  3)  + ( 9 x -1)  =  33 - 9  =  24 
     so her mark is 24 out of 60.)
 b.)  (8x3)  + (1 x -1)    =   24 - 1 = 23
    her score is 23 out of  60
