In a population that is Hardy Weinberg equilibrium, the frequency if a recessive allele for a certain hereditary trait is 0.20. What percentage if individual in the next generation would be expected to show the dominant trait

Dear student
I think there is uncertainty in question, so I am calculating the frequency of dominant allele.We cannot calculate the percentage of individuals in next generation showing dominant trait.

Here, dominant allele is designated by ‘p’ and recessive allele by ‘q’.

It is given that ( q)2 = 0.20

 Thus, q = 0.44

 As we know p + q = 1

 p = 1 – q = 1 – 0.4 = 0.55
