Megaspore mother cell divides by one meiotic and three mitotic divisions to form eight nucleated and seven celled structure called embryo sac. Three cells in egg apparatus (one egg cell, two synergids), two polar cells and three antipodal cells forms the eight nucleated embryo sac. Therefore for 16 MMCs, total number of meiotic division will 16 and number of mitotic divisions will be 48 to form 16 embryo sacs with eight nuclei each.
