in hershey and chase experiment by finding phosphorous in the cells and not in the supernatant how do we tell that dna is the genetic material

Dear student,
Phosphorous is found in the phosphate group in nucleotide of DNA, so the presence of phosphorous in the cell and not in the supernatant indicates the presence of DNA in cell.
