In the Iodine Test of Plants, if we cover some part of leave with black paper, the leave loses its starch.
But the other parts of leaves produce the food so shouldn't it share it or translocate to different parts of the plant including the leaves which have a deficiency of starch???
If the plants transport food to destarched parts then the iodine test should prove true for the entire leaf.
Dear student
You are right.
Iodine test for starch holds true for entire leaf.
Starch is produced in photosynthesising part of leaf and iodine is used to test the presence of starch.
Phloem transports food from leaf to other parts of plant through Translocation,
SO food produced in part of leaf can be translocated to starch deficient part, but there will be burden on leaf to produce more food in order to compensate for starch deficient part of leaf, so leaf will ultimately die due to defieciency.
