IN THE PORTRAIT OF A LADY WHY THE GRANDMOTHERS FINGURES ARE CALLED AS LIFELESS BEFORE HER DEATH ?

Dear student

The narrator says that the rosary fell from her lifeless fingers. He says this indicating that, at the very last moment of her life, all of her strength left her body and her fingers. In death, she no longer had any strength to hold the rosary, making her fingers lifeless.

It's not called before death. It is just that when her lips stop saying prayers and her rosary falls with her fingers showing no movement, they realize that she is death. So her lifeless fingers signifies her death.
