In which part of india salinity and alkalinity is the major cause for land degradation? Why?

Dear student,

Here is the answer:

Out of 130 million hectares of degraded land in India 6 percent is affected by saline and alkaline deposit. In states of Punjab, Haryana and western Uttar Pradesh over irrigation leads to land degradation. This increases salinity and alkalinity of soil. Mineral processing like grinding of limestone, calcite and soapstone of ceramic industry and industrial effluents are also major source of land degradation.
