Is it right or wrong

Dear student,

- The general rules given in the picture are correct.
- The explanation is not very clear though.
- The example of passive should be: Delicious food is cooked by Mary.
Refer to the following notes for a deeper understanding:
-The voice in a sentence- Active voice and Passive voice- relates to its verb. A transitive verb can be in the active or passive voice.
- When the subject of the verb acts or is the doer of the action, the verb is said to be in the Active voice. For e.g. The blacksmith made the sword. The subject of this sentence(blacksmith) is the doer of the action(made). Therefore, the verb is in the Active voice.
- When the subject of the verb receives the action or is acted upon, the verb is said to be in the Passive voice. For e.g. The sword was made by the blacksmith. The subject of this sentence(sword) receives the action(made). Therefore, the verb is in the Passive voice.
- Active Voice uses less number of words, is simpler to use and clear in meaning. Our day-to-day conversations use Active voice.
- Passive voice is used in formal writing- to write reports, log scientific experiments, make advertisements, headlines for newspapers, address a formal gathering.
- It is important to be able to identify the subject, object and verb in a sentence as a prerequisite to transformation of Active to Passive Voice and vice versa.
