justify the title of story ' the address ''

'The Address' as a title is apt for the story because it shows how in spite of the apparent familiarity that the woman feels in this place, there is a disjunction between what it used to mean to her and what it means now. It is just an address and not her home anymore. This place has the belongings of her mother but they belong to someone else,it is  just a stranger's place and not the one she remembers from memory. It is just an address, far removed from what she had in her memory.

Margo Minco has very Aptly and logically titled this short story "The Address". The narrator and her mother were victims of the war. The upheaval Forced them to be wanderers. They had No permanent Address worth the Name. All the "nice things" were at No.46, Marconi Street. They aroused nostalgic feelings of former times. But their true owner was No more in this World. The narrator resolved to forget them and also the Address where they lay.

Margo Minco titles the story "The Address". The title seems to be quite appropriate and meaningful. The narrator is the victim of the war.She shuttles from 1 place to another. She had to run for her life. She comes back home as she is the only survivor after the war. Naturally, she goes in search of all those 'nice things' that once belonged to her mother. She knows "The address" and the woman Who lives there. The address is: No.46, Marconi Street. The woman is Mrs.Dorling she refuses to recognise the Narrator. Nor does she want to hand over those valuable things to her. Hence, the narrator decided to forget the address for ever. Hence, the title is quite logical and bears a definite meaning.

The story takes place during the post war period. The protagonist is mourning the loss of her mother who died during the war period. The narrator begins to recall bitter sweet memories of her mother. Initially after the liberation she was not interested in confronting her mothers belongings which she had "lent" to Mrs Dorling. The story revolves around the daughter trying to obtain what was left of her mothers memories, her belongings. Since these belongings have been taken to the house of her mothers friend, she tries to get hold of them. But seeing them again she finally realises that they have no value, since the memory which links value to the object is long gone. Hence she decides to forget the adress and move on.

The title of the story is quite appropriate. The whole action centers around it. The title is quite suggestive & occurs at the beginning, middle & end of the story. The author focuses the readers? attention on it by her self-assurance that she had reached the correct address.

The middle part of the story reveals how she came to the address. It was her mother who had informed her about the place where Mrs. Dorling lived and asked her to remember it.

Finally the story ends dramatically with the narrators? resolve to forget the address. She had remembered it for so many years & now since the belongings of her mother stored there have lost their usefulness she finds that forgetting this address would be quite easy.
