Dear Student,

Informal letter on “Bapu, you inspire me.”
Tips for writing informal letters:
  1. Format

Your address

Date

Dear (name of person),

(body of the letter)

Love,
Your name

  1. You can change the salutation by saying “Hi (name)” if it’s a friend or Dear Mr (name) or Dear Mrs (Name) if it’s an older person like your teacher.
  2. Contents of the letter will be in a personal, friendly and informal tone.
  3. You can change the signature by using phrases like “best wishes”, “kind regards”, “lots of love” etc depending on your relationship with the person.

Here is a sample I have written for you. You can fill in the incomplete parts yourself using the tips I have given you. I am not sure if the ‘Bapu’ here refers to your father or to Mahatma Gandhi, so I’ll be writing a letter outline addressed to your father and thanking him for being an inspiration to you.

Dear Bapu,
How are you? How’s Ma’s health faring? Thank you very much for your last letter. <you can continue with any informal questions you may have about them.
Bapu, I am writing this letter to thank you for being such a shining example to me in life. You are an amazing role model, with your strong values, and your honesty and integrity. Today, in class, we had to write an essay on the topic “Your personal role model”. I could only think of you.
(Continue the body of the letter – you can maybe write some incident when you felt in awe of your father; thank him for helping you be a better person etc.)
I will be coming for the Dussehra holidays very soon. Please tell Ma that I am craving for her aloo paratha! Give my regards to... (you can continue the concluding paragraph by sending your regards to somebody at home. You can also say that you are waiting to hear from them etc.)

Yours lovingly,
