Long Answer Question

Plant breeding is a method to alter the genetic constituent of plant to develop the specific genotype and phenotype. The objective of plant breeding is to produce the plants that have better characteristics like increase yield of the plant , increase resistance of plants to various disease.
Various steps involved in classical interbreeding are:
I. Collection of germplasm : This step include collection of various available variety of plant including wild variety, species of cultivated species. The collection of all alleles for all the genes of a given plant is known as gemplasm collection
II. Evaluation and selection of parent plant: In this step, germplasm is evaluated in order to find the parent with desirable characteristic.
III. Cross hybridization among the selected parents : two or more plants with desired characteristic are hybridized with each other to produce progeny with desired characteristics.
IV. Selection and testing of superior recombinants: the recombinant hybrid progeny are further evaluated to find the progeny plants with desired characteristics.
V. Testing, release and commercialisation of new cultivars: the selected lines are are then tested with local best cultivar and then are released for commercialisation.
