maam, I have 2 doubts while going through the chapter in my text book. maam, will you help me with these doubt.
1) Which force is applied on the rope when water is drawn from the well.
2) Why do we slip in a clayey soil during the rain?

Dear Student,

1)  1. Friction between your hands and the rope.
2. Friction in the knot of the rope where it is tied to the bucket.
3. Friction between the rope and  the pulley.
4. Friction between the bearing of the pulley and the pulley.
Along with frinctional force, we also apply muscular force for pulling it up.

2) Clayey Sol:
  • size of particles of clay soil commonly found very small .
  • Particles of clayey soil packed tightly. There is very Small space among the particles.
  • Water does not removed quickly through clayey soil because of small space among particles.
  • clayey soil is not properly aerated and retains more water.
These are some properties which makes the clayey soil frictionless, thus we more oftenly slip during the rainy seasons.

Hope this information will clear your doubts about the topic.
