Look usually magnets are based on metals which usually are the good conductors of heat and electricity. So as result magnets have thermal conductivity comparable with metals and i have to disagree with the way your dear friend had concluded the answer. In case of magnets exceptions are possible but we can't deny it conducts electricity.
