mention the condition when template strand becomes coding strand
Dear Student,
Transcription unit consists of:
1. Promoter: It is the DNA sequence at which RNA polymerase binds and initiates transcription. It is present upstream of the structural gene at the 5' end.
2. Start sequence
3. Coding region
4. Terminator - It is responsible for the termination of the transcription. It is present downstream of the structural gene at 3' end.
The position of promoter and terminator defines the template and coding strand. If the positions of promoter and terminator get exchanged, the template strand becomes the coding strand and coding strand becomes the template strand.
