Mode of communication and transportation in medeival period in India

Dear Student,
The mode of transportation and communication system in medieval India was entirely different from that of present day India. During that time the main means of transport were bullock carts, palanquins, horse carriages, etc. The roads were mostly in kuccha form or in dilapidated condition, especially in the villages. However, the sea routes were the most widely used routes by the people of the medieval period for various purposes like trade and commerce. People used to communicate with their long distance relatives and friends through letters which were either sent in the hands of messengers or with pigeons. Any news or information to the public was announced by beating drums and a particular individual would shout out the particular message to the public.
