Mother gives birth to a baby but the baby has characters of both parents. How is this possible?

In Sexual reproduction the Zygote is formed by the fusion of both male and female gametes ( Sperms and Ova in case of Humans, respectively)
Since , Zygote is formed by fusion , it caries characters similar to both of these.
Therefore , although a mother gives birth to a baby , but the baby also has characters of father also.
