mutations are beneficial for plant breeding . explain how by giving examples .?

Dear student,

Please find below the solution to the asked query:
Mutations are beneficial in plant breeding. Using mutation breeding genetic variations are created, which then result in the creation of traits not found in the parental type.
Mutational breeding is a process of exposing seeds to certain chemicals or radiation to generate mutations with desirable effects.  These mutants are then bred with other cultivars. Such plants are commonly called mutants or mutagenic plants. The plants in which the desired character (in this case, the desired resistance) has come through mutation are selected.
Parbhani Kranti is produced through mutational breeding and it is resistant to viral disease.
The genetic variation is created by induced mutation and resistance of yellow vein mosaic virus is transferred from wild variety into bhindi to create Parbhani Kranti.
