Ethene and ethane can be distinguish on the basis of bromine water test.
Ethene being an unsaturated compound decolourises the brown colour of bromine whereas ethane being a saturated compound do not show any change in colour.
In a test tube containing ethene, if a few drops of bromine water is added( brown in colour), then the colour of the solution changes form brown to colourless.
However, in a test tube containing ethane, if a few drops of bromine is added then brown colour of bromine will persist.
