Coelenteratais an obsolete term encompassing two animalphyla, theCtenophora(comb jellies) and theCnidaria(coralanimals, true jellies, sea anemones, sea pens, and their allies). The name comes from theGreek"koilos" ("full bellied"), referring to the hollowbody cavitycommon to these two phyla. They have very simpletissueorganization, with only two layers of cells, external and internal and radial symmetry. Some of the examples arecorals,sea anemonewhich are colonial andhydra,jelly fishwhich are solitary.
