Everysociety comprises several types and rules of marriage. Our societyparticularly follows monogamy. Monogamy is a system of marriagewherein one man can marry only one woman, and one woman can onlymarry one man. People are only allowed to re-marry after the death oftheir spouse or after a divorce. Thus, they cannot have more than onespouse at the same time.

Generally,the marriages are fixed by the parents and this is known as arrangemarriage. Parents choose the relevant partners for their sons anddaughters. However, some people also prefer love marriages and theirpartners are self chosen.

Somesocieties also practice the rules of polygamy and polygyny, whereinthe men and women can have multiple partners as their wives andhusbands respectively. However, this practice is not allowed in lawsof marriage of some religions.
