On killing a tree central idea

Solution:
The central idea of the poem is to preserve trees. The poet wants to sensitise humans to the pain felt by a tree when it is cut or uprooted; he reminds us that a tree is a living being too and feels the same pain as we do when hurt/ scratched by a sharp object. He wants us to remember that trees are the roots to our existence and should not be cut mindlessly for our selfish reasons.
