Our self image is often based on what others make us believe we are. A poor self image can do irreparable damage to us. discuss in relation to the poem - " the frog and the nightingale"

We always look at ourselves from the view point of others. We are anxious to please others and know what they think about us, If our image is good in their eyes then we are happy and if it is not then we feel depressed. Only strong people can take criticism lightly and go on with their lives. In the poem, we see that the nightingale is anxious to please the frog whom she thinks is a master of singing. She is pleased when he offers to guide her and later very upset when he criticises her. She wants only appreciation from her mentor and when she fails to get it, she is depressed and becomes sick.
