| Wednesday, 24 June 20xx 9 PM Dear Diary, Today, I had a sad but profound experience. Our school had organised a visit to an old age home for our class today. We carried biscuits and pastries for the inhabitants and presented a dance recital for them. I was saddened to learn that some of the elderly had been abandoned by their children. Others had been ill-treated and had chosen to spend the rest of their life in the old age home. They had spent their lives in looking after their kids and had got this poor treatment in return. I felt anger and disappointment at the erosion of our values. We need to give company to the elderly, respect them and take special care of their medical needs. We can certainly keep them with us in their old age. We will still benifit from their wisdom and experience. Despite their many hardships, the elderly were cheerful and appreciative of our visit. I hope that I am able to take good care of my parents when they are old. |
