Matilda's over-ambition was the cause of her destruction. She wanted to purchase a new dress just to attend a party. If I were her friend I would tell her that we do not have to show-off in front of others just to gain their favour. In doing so, we are punishing ourselves. Also, I would ask her to confess her mistake to Madame Forestier.
