Dear student,
Kolkata is an important cotton textile producing centre because it is near Hooghly river which suffice the water requirements for cultivation, bleaching and dying in the industry.

 Also, it has sufficient power supply as it is near Jharia and Raniganj coal fields.

It receives good capital supply and has inexpensive labour, etc.
