Dear Student

Though Bholi's parents were rich, they did not know the worth of education in their daughters' lives and therefore, did not provide them an opportunity to go to school. The story 'Bholi' teaches us that discrimination between men and women is seen in our society, even today. The brothers of Bholi were sent to the city, in order to be educated. However, this privilege was not provided to the daughters in the family. Also, Bholi's mother believed that if daughters were educated, no one would marry them. The only reason that her parents decided to send her to school was because they saw very less chances of her being married off. Upon being instructed by the Tehsildar, Bholi's father consults with his wife and decides to send Bholi to school. But Bholi is seen throughout the story as a neglected child. She does not receive the concern of her parents. In the story of Bholi, the only reason that her parents agree to the proposal of Bishamber is because he had not demanded any dowry. But the power of education that was instilled in her by her teachers compelled her to stand on her feet and speak out her feelings. The story of Bholi teaches the reader about the power of education and its role in a girl's life. Therefore, apart from time and circumstances, education gave Bholi intelligence, presence of mind and wisdom to face the challenges. These qualities transformed her into a bold woman, who was not afraid to stand up and voice her feelings.

Regards.
