face value- of a number is the number itself eg. face value of 6  is 6
place value -of a number is the value depending on the place of the number eg. place vale of 5 in 67859 is 50.

Face value : value of the digit and it is always constant.
eg : the face value of 89 is always and will remain as 89.

Place value : determines the position of a digit in a number .
eg: the place value of 4 in this number ( 895628456) is four hundreds or 400.
