please explain in detail about subject verb agreement like use with indefinite and distributive pronoun etc.

Dear Student

Subject and verb should agree with each other in numbers. Thus, if the subject is singular, verb too is singular and if the subject is plural, the verb too is plural.

Indefinite pronouns:-
  • Singular indefinite pronouns like each, anyone, nobody, anybody, neither, either, someone, something and so on takes singular verbs. For eg.- Each does good deal of work around the office.
  • Plural indefinite pronouns like several, few, both, many takes plural verbs. For eg- Both do a great deal of work around the office.
  • Some indefinite pronouns can act as either singular or plural i.e. with uncountable use singular and with countable use plural. For eg- Some of the sugar is on the floor. Some of the marbles are on the floor
  • In the above sentences, sugar is uncountable followed by singular verb and marbles are countable followed by plural verb.
