In p-block the valency is either group no. or 8-group no.
Example: The group no. of nitrogen family is VA.
so the valency is 8-5=3 but for P in the same group the valency is either 5 or 3 both.
They can show both valency but N form only 3 bonds due to the absence of orbitals in the same shell. But P or other elements can form.
The concept will be same for other groups.
