India has come a long way since 1947. When the British left our country in 1947 India was left orphaned suddenly. Though the war of Independence was fought for over 100 years, yet when it happened India was fledgling. The leaders of that time put together an economic and political structure suited to the times. There was a scramble to bring order at that time.
Today 73 years later India stands at yet another crossroads. Our economy has grown and is a force to reckon with in the international world. India began as an agrarian economy and its farmers worked hard with limited technology to feed the millions and put Indian crops in the export market. This multi-pronged approach helped India to grow in stature. Initially, slow but steady. The Second Five Year Plan focussed on industrial development. Heavy, large-scale industries were set up and this now brought employment to the masses and more money in the hands of the people. India was taking rapid strides in its growth story. Leaders with a vision and mission directed India to a path of glory. Our exports rose and imports for the first time began a downward trend. We were moving towards self-reliance.
India took rapid strides in the field of electronics and technology. The world sat up to take notice of India's contribution to the field of information technology. Indians are at the helm of many well-known tech giants. We steadily and surely were moving towards self-reliance - atmanirbhar. Today our self-sufficiency has given us global recognition and is considered a force to reckon with. No more the land of snake charmers and elephants roaming the streets.
