After passing the island of Madagascar, the Adventure has to brave consistent storms. Then, they run out of water and seek land to get water. When they find one, some sailors go to look for water, while Gulliver goes alone to explore the island. Finding nothing to satisfy his curiosity in the ‘barren and rocky’ island, Gulliver decides to return to the ship. This shows that he an adventurous person, ready to take up challenges. It also shows his bravery to explore alone.
Suddenly, he sees his crew members rowing in haste towards their ship. As Gulliver is about to scream for them to stop, he notices a giant running towards their boat. However, the monster fails to overtake the boat and Gulliver is left alone on the island. He had landed in Brobdingnag.
From Gulliver's account, we understand that the big Brobdingnagians are more generous and less quarrelsome or corrupt as compared to the people of Lilliput. The empire of Lilliput is full of civil controversies and commotions whereas the land of the giant Brobdingnagians is a society of simple laws and having little civil litigation. This shows his character of being able to appreciate others and see the good in them.
The Brobdingnagians treated Gulliver with hospitality. The farmer took him and his wife served meat to him by carefully cutting very small portions for him. Glumdalclitch also took his care with love. Though farmer earned profit at Gulliver's cost and exploited him deviously, he was later taken to the court where the royal servants and Glumdalclitch always served him like companions. He was able to cope and adapt to every situation.
