x = 4 $\times$ 4 ,

x  =  16

16 ) Given two numbers  = 24 and 42

And

G.C.F. of two numbers  = 6

Let,  L.C.M.  of two numbers  =  x

We know : Product of two numbers = L.C.M.  of two numbers $\times$ G.C.F. of two numbers , So 

24 $\times$ 42 = x  $\times$  6 ,

4 $\times$ 42 = x  ,

x  = 168

Therefore,

Required L.C.M.  of two numbers  = 168                                               ( Ans )
