'The Rattrap' is a story about a peddler who had to face many misfortunes in his life and has now ended up selling rattraps for a living. In the beginning of the story, he is described as someone who has a very pessimistic view of life. He thinks that the world around him is nothing but a rattrap which tempts human beings with money and luxurious things and when we run towards it, we are caught in the trap and left with nothing. Materiel things are the traps that most human beings fall into but they do have a tendency to redeem themselves and lead a honest life. He realised this fact when he met a young woman who showed him generosity. Finally, the woman's kindness helped him change his bitter attitude towards life.
