Please tell what was Ashoka's Dhamma

Dear Student,

Ashok Dhamma is a way of living that consists of some moral values and guidelines which should be followed by people in large. It is believed that the one who follows Dhamma can get the path for salvation. After the Kalinga war, Ashoka started preaching Dhamma. The people who preached Dhamma were called as "Dhamma Mahamatras" .
Dhamma had various salient features like prohibition of animal sacrifices, humane treatment of animals and Brahmins, the slaves should be treated well by their masters , humane treatment of a prisoner by the government, Tolerance towards the other sects, abolition of meaningless ceremonies, reaching rural areas to preach Dhamma through Dhammayatras etc.

Regards.
