Pls ans to this question?

Dear student,
Please find below the answer:

The ratio of seeds obtained is in accordance with the Mendelian ratio of a dihybrid cross i.e. 9:3:3:1.

i. The F1 progeny must be RrYy i.e. round, yellow seeds which on self-pollination produces the seeds in ratio 9:3:3:1.
ii. The ratio of recessive trait i.e. wrinkled, green is 1/16.
iii. With this experiment law of independent assortment was understood.

The law of independent assortment states that, When two pairs of traits are combined in a hybrid, one pair of character segregates independently of the other pair of character. In a more simple language, alleles of one character does not influence the alleles of other characters. For example, In a dihybrid cross between two plants having two contrasting characters like round yellow (RRYY) and wrinkled green seeds (rryy), four types of gametes (RY, Ry, rY, ry) are produced. Now the shape of the plants (round and wrinkled) does not affect the colour of the plants (yellow and green).

Hope this helps.
Regards.
