Q.3. Even though Jhum cultivation led to soil erosion how could the tribals practise this form of cultivation for generations without harming the environment?

Jhum cultivation was also popularly known as slash and burn agriculture. Although it led to soil erosion, the tribals practiced this form of cultivation without harming the environment, as they left the field fallow for a few years afterwards. This allowed the land to regain the nutrients and lost minerals. In this way the tribals were able to not only gain their agriculture but also protected the land .
