Power is one of the most critical components of infrastructure.It is crucial for economic welfare of the nation.India's power sector is one of the most diversified in the world.Sources of power generation range from conventional to non-conventional.Electricity demand in our country has risen rapidly and is expected to rise more in the future.
Schemes launched by the government to improve power infrastructure:
1.An amendment was introduced in the electricity act,2003 which discusses separation of content and carriage,24*7 power supply is an obligation,setting up of smart meters and prepaid meters.
2.Ujjawal Discoms Assurance Yojana (UDAY) was launched by government of India to encourage operational and financial turn around of state owned power distribution companies(DISCOMS).
3.Government of India approved the National policy of Biofuels 2018 which is expected to benefit health and promote cleaner environment and also boost the infrastructural investment in rural areas.
4.Deen Dayal Updhayaya Gram Jyoti Yojana(DDUGJY) for rural areas which aims for rural electrification and strengthening of sub-transmission and distribution infrastructure in rural areas including metering at distribution transformers.
5.Operationalization of Power system Development Fund(PSDF)for installation of shunt capacitors for improvement of voltage profile grid in urban areas and also for renovation and modernisation of distribution systems.
